Fall Concert

A Christmas Kaleidoscope

♫ ♫ ♫

The Island Chamber Singers will perform A Christmas Kaleidoscope at the Amelia Plantation Chapel on Saturday, December 11, at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 12, at 3:00 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend these free concerts as our gift to the community! The choir will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

The program, like a kaleidoscope, is many-faceted in style, era, and composition. We will sing a variety of favorites from John Rutter’s Christmas collection, including “Shepherd’s Pipe Carol” and “Somerset Wassail.” In a totally different vein is “In Dulci Jubilo” a 14th century carol that features a mixture of Latin and English lyrics. We will then move to Argentina with a delightful tango-like selection by Astor Piazzolla, “The Road to Bethlehem”. “O Magnum Mysterium” is the lovely text that speaks to the wonder of animals being present at the birth of Jesus. It was composed by Tomas Luis de Victoria in the 16th century and is one of the finest examples of late Renaissance choral music. We will sing our favorite, “I Wish You Christmas” as our concluding selection.

We hope you, your friends, and family will come and enjoy our special gift from us to you. May it bring you joy and put you in the holiday mood. We are so happy to be singing again; we are back, Hallelujah!
